Heimbach is a small city in the German Eifel. It has two charming bridges and a very cute pink castle. It is famous for its liquors and the shops where you can find various flavours. Furthermore, Heimbach is a great place where you can go when the weather is not 100% nice and you cannot wander in the Eifel nature park. You can find a shelter in many restaurants or coffee places but also in the castle itself. The castle is special because of its colours. It has pinkish toned stone walls. The view from its tower over the whole city is very nice and a little windy. The castle is also perfect for lovers of tarte flambée, in German "Flammkuchen". In the castle, you can find a restaurant which only serves Flammkuchen. For those who don't know what Flammkuchen is: The basis of the German speciality "Flammkuchen" is a very thinly rolled out base of bread dough. The traditional topping consists of raw onions, bacon and a cream of sour cream lightly seasoned with salt and pepper. We recommend to try it. What we found to be very cool is that you can actually rent an apartment at the castle. Who wouldn't like to spend one or more nights at the castle and feel like a king or a queen? We definitely want to try it.
